Subject: [OpenMap Users] scale help

I'm looking at my OpenMap map at a scale of 1:20,000. What exactly is
the
20,000? I'm just running the default OpenMap application (640x480) and I
used the distance tool to measure from one side of the window to the
other
and it came out to ~1.648 miles. That isn't 20,000 anything (meters,
feet,
centimeters, etc.).

So, what exactly is the scale a ratio of?

Thanks,
Michael
