Hi Ed,
There is j3d code in OpenMap, but it's very rudimentary and frankly,
needs more work. It does 'work' on a mac, though.
Steve McDonald of Silicon Spaceships is in the process of developing a
cool product that uses j3d and OpenMap, and that runs very well on a
Mac. You might want to contact him for more information.
