In that case I would use one of those services. They all differ in how often you are allowed to use them, how precise they are, and what part of the world they cover. There are also many commercial ones out there. Just search for Geocoder. The Geocoder.us is only the US as it is based on the U.S. Census data, and it goes down to the street address level. Geonames.org is for the entire world, but doesn't go all the way down to the street level. These two are open source so if you are going to use either service heavily, they would probably appreciate it if you donated some money to their cause. Yahoo has limits on how often you can use it, and I would assume Google does as well. If you want to use the Google service from Java instead of Javascript there are ways to do that as well:

http://geo-google.sourceforge.net/

I hope that helps.

I need to know the exact (more or less) point on the map corresponding to an address typed by the user. To explain better, I have a map with streets and I have to show the point corresponding to an address that the user type in a form.

Thanks again!

If you mean geocoding or converting an address to latitude, longitude, then Open Map doesn't support that but there are plenty of geocoding services out there and some of them are even free depending on how much you use it and for what purpose. Here are a couple:

Dear all, I'm here again to ask for an information. Does OpenMap support
"address matching"?

Thanks in advance,
