Hi Mariusz,
AreaShapeLayer and its associated AreaHandler already have this capability
built in. You'll need a *.dbf (or *.csv) file to accompany your shape file
with a row for every shape identifying each shape's key. The documentation
on the AreaHandler javadoc should get you up and running:

Subject: [OpenMap Users] ESRI shapes or OpenMap shapes
Suppose I have got a shape file of world map how can I provide some kind
of renderer for the layer that would present different colors for
different polygons.
I would like to provide a color for based on estimated population and so
on. Is there any already implemented way to do so?
Thanks
