Vairoj,
I have done exactly what you are thinking, move from MapObjects to OpenMap Key drivers from my side were cost and performance. I have fairly heavy "real-time"
requirements and MapObjects could not keep up when thousands of objects needs continuous updating.
I consider MapObjects as a more "complete" and "commercial" product such as far better documentation (and updated), and a more streamlined class structure.
On the other hand I consider OpenMap a bit more rough on the edges, documentation stinks in comparision, the class structure is a bit more confusing, but the code is solid and straightforward to use and I have not encountered any bugs.
So why the change :
Cost
Performance !!!!!!
Open Source (and this is VERY important !!!)
Open Source means that I have been able to change the core product to improve and finetune it to my specific purposes and that there is a user community that comes up with modification add-ons
I had the same requirements as you concerning geo-tiff which was solved with the community add-on from Carsten Madsen
As a summary
I have not regretted my switch a second
Geir :-)

Subject: [OpenMap Users] Geo-tiff or geo-registered image support
Hi,
Currently, I am using ESRI's MapObjects for Java to display geo-registered image. I am investigating on migrate to OpenMaps. I've search through the mailing list regarding OpenMaps supports for geo-tiff and geo-registered image format (an image with corresponding world file). I found some discussion about the development and contribution on the topic. What I would like to know is the current status of OpenMaps.
Does OpenMaps now supports geo-registered image layer or is it a plan feature in a future release?
Regards,
Vairoj
